Gering grapplers poised for success in opening tourney
     2014-12-04      By Staff Report
Photos by Kay Grote/Gering Citizen - Gering freshman Kaetlyn Todd maintains control against sophomore Avery Bailey in a closely fought round Monday night. The match went into overtime after Todd and Bailey both racked up 7 points. Todd maneuvered a reversal early in the overtime period to win the match 9-7.
On Monday night the Gering wrestling team conducted an intrasquad scrimmage to assess the weight class best suited for each wrestler in the upcoming dual at Cheyenne East on Saturday. With 31 members, Coach J. J. Behrens says the team is “young and dangerous this year.” The team has a tougher schedule this year, having added an additional JV tournament. Behrens said the Cheyenne East Tournament, Valentine Tournament, and Chadron Tournaments will be good tests for the team. The team will sink its teeth into the season this Saturday against Cheyenne East. See next week’s edition for our area wrestling preview.
