The Gering 12 and Under baseball team traveled to Marion, Kan. last weekend to participate in the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament.

Gering was scheduled to play at 4 p.m. on Friday but due to a rain delay could not play until the second game on Sat., July 30. Gering suffered its first loss of the tournament against Colorado with a score of 11-0. Two awards were given to Gering during that game: the WOW Award was given to Dylan Radzymski for his achievements during that game and the MVP Award was given to Dalton Scott.

Gering’s second game in the tournament, also played on Saturday, was against the host team out of Marion, Kan. This game really showcased Gering’s talent throughout the contest. Gering still suffered a loss of 7-5, but there were several outstanding plays. A home run was hit by Gering’s Dylan Radzymski, who was also awarded the team’s MVP award, while Gering’s Cody Snelling was awarded the WOW award for that same game.

The Kansas commissioners congratulated the boys on a well-fought game and said they look forward to seeing the team compete in future regional tournaments.

Gering and Scottsbluff were the only Nebraska teams to represent our state in the tournament. Scottsbluff started play on Friday but the game was called due to rain after two innings played. The game was completed on Saturday with a final score of Kansas, 6, Scottsbluff, 3.

Scottsbluff also played SEMO North Missouri on Saturday and was defeated 14-0, thus eliminating them from the tournament.

Scottsbluff players received special recognition awards. In game one, Brady Sindt was named MVP. The WOW award went to Skylar Mueller. In game two, the MVP award went to A.J. Castillo-Powell and the WOW award was given to Brady Sindt.
