Middle row, juniors Karsen Hunter (student manager), Alex Wamboldt, Zaine Gallegos, Lucas Jones, Steven Tobacco (student manager). Back row, freshmen Bentley Koch, Mitch McKibbin, Dalton Harter, Bryce Burry, Alex Nelson, Cole Kramer, Jacob Wamboldt, Alex Araujo, and Colin Hendrickson.
Two state qualifiers are among a strong team of wrestlers that will compete this winter for the Bayard High School Tigers.
Senior Tristan Hunter at 220 pounds placed fourth last year in the C-4 state tournament and also earned postseason honors. Incoming junior Zaine Gallegos also placed at state last year in the 285 pound division. Bayard finished third last year in the Western Trails Conference with a 7-5 dual record.

Coach Randy McKibbin said his other letter-winning returning starters are senior Robert Niezwaag at 132 pounds, senior JD Wurm at 182 pounds and junior Alex Wamboldt in the 195/220 pound division.
“We will need to have good leadership from the upperclassmen,” McKibbin said. “Our younger athletes will also need to step up and contribute.”

The Tiger team has already competed against some quality schools, including a home dual against Kimball and an invitational at Mullen.
“We have great coaches and wrestlers among the schools in our district,” McKibbin said. “C-4 is usually one of the toughest districts in the state.”
