The fourth annual Jason Vesper Memorial Golf Tournament was held Sat. Aug. 6 at Riverview Golf Course in Scottsbluff. Money raised will assist the non-profit organization of CAPstone Child Advocacy Center to provide a safe place for kids while building their life skills, self confidence, honesty and integrity. CAPstone provides a safe place for children to talk about abuse they have experienced, enabling them to start the recovery process. A child advocate works with families throughout the process of court and placement when required.

$5,000 was raised for CAPstone this year, bringing the total amount raised for that organization over the four years up to $14,000. CAPstone director Joy McKay said that there are no specific plans as of yet for the money but when CAPstone moves into the new building at 900 P St. in Gering, the goal is to name a room after Jason Vesper as a memorial to him. CAPstone is using USDA rural development loan that has been approved in order to do renovations on the building they already own. “It’s taken much longer than we anticipated but we are getting close,” said McKay. “Until we get the final go ahead, we can’t do anything in the way of starting the project.” The move is hoped to be accomplished in a year.

Another portion of the money raised during the golf scramble, an estimate of $2,000 will go toward the accumulation of a reward fund, now at $12,000 which has been set up to encourage citizens to contribute any information that may be helpful in the ongoing investigation of the murder of Jason Vesper. The information provided must lead to a conviction in order for the reward to be claimed.

Winners of the fourth Annual Jason Vesper Memorial Golf Tournament were from Loveland, Colo. The 4-person scramble team included Morris Beagle, Mark Brewer, Greg Coch and Steve Claytor.
