Heart Association ‘Red-Out’ celebration Friday at SHS-Gering games
     2015-02-19      By Terry Gaston    sports@geringcitizen.com
While the Gering-at-Scottsbluff basketball doubleheader Friday night at the Scottsbluff High School gym will likely be dominated by the school colors red and blue, the SHS Student Senate is hoping the red part will take precedence to a worthy cause.

The night is designated as a “Red-Out” for the American Heart Association, following the theme “It’s Your Life.”

Items available for purchase include T-shirts that can be purchased prior to and during the games for $10. Proceeds from the shirt sales will go to the American Heart Association.

“A buck a duck,” featuring an AHA duck on a lanyard, will be for sale for $1 each.

Also, face painting for kids will take place during the hour before the 5:30 p.m. girls’ game. Charge of the face art is by donation.
During halftime of the boys’ games, an EMT will make a presentation on compression-only CPR, with students providing demonstrations. Also at halftime, heart disease survivors will be recognized.

In addition, a memorial wall in the commons area will be available for patrons can write the names of family or friends they know who have had heart disease or have died from heart disease or stroke.
Also, any businesses that would like to send donations to the AHA are asked to contact Linda Meininger, Student Senate sponsor, at Scottsbluff High School, and they will be recognized at halftime as well.

Inquiries concerning the “Red-Out” event may contact Meininger at 635-6230 or lmeininger@sbps.net.
