Mitchell track team committed to hard work

Tigers track team head coach Michelle Peters said things are looking good in practice as the students get ready for their opening meet in Kimball. The Mitchell Invite comes early in the season as the Tigers host their home meet at Mitchell High on April 9.

The boys participate in the Western Trails Conference (WTC) while the girls compete in both the WTC and the Western Conference (WC).
“Our teams are working hard,” Peters said. “We have many talented athletes returning and a talented freshman group that strengthens both boys and girls teams.”

Peters said the goals for the season include winning the WTC meet and be competitive in WC and all district meets. “We also want to improve times from meet to meet,” she added.

Peters noted that the kids are committed to working hard. “They are improving every practice so we will be ready to compete each week.” Peters said there are 47 total students participating in the Tiger’s track program.

Returning seniors and upperclassmen are Aspen Reifschneider, Celeste Cardona, Madison Watson, Devin Beaver, Drew Gilliland, Chase Watson, Christian Perez, Abe Hernandez, Edward Grentz, and Colby Eberspecher.
“We have a few promising newcomers in Jori Peters, Olivia Armstrong, Drake Gilliland and Dawson Reifschneider,” she said. During a recent practice Peters directed all the team captains to award several team members with a yellow bracelet to acknowledge particular hard work in early practice sessions.

“Everyone one of you will eventually be singled out so keep working hard and your teammates will recognize you,” Peters said.
“I think things are looking really good,” she said. “I expect we’ll have some kids competing at State this year.”

The 2015 season will be Peters fourth year as head coach. Her support staff includes Mike Harringer, Jayson Gregory, Glen Eberspecher and Joe Yauney.
