Despite the recent inclement weather, it is summer sports season. Nothing says summer like the oldest summer sport, baseball. Baseball season got underway last week as the Gering Platte Valley Companies Senior Legion baseball team, nicknamed the "Thirtysixers," hit the diamond.

Coaching for the senior Legion team is Rick Kinaman, who’s more than ready for the season to begin. "We have actually had quite a few practices this year in spite of the weather,” he said. “We probably need to be playing a game. I think we have enough things in place to be competitive this season."

Kinaman talked about his go to players this year. "Anybody that returns is going to be familiar with how we do things and that is going to be pretty much the ones that we lean on. Esai Hernandez, Brent Barge, Quintin Timblin, Nic Bibb, Austin Reynolds, Trace Fulk, and Brenden Brester will make up the core team to learn on this season.”

Kinaman says it’s working on the small stuff that makes the difference. "Understanding that the game can be broken down, and understanding the game can be broken down into little things,” he said, is key. “I don't think that we have anybody that has blazing speed, throws exceptionally hard or hits the ball 10 miles but we do understand that the game can be broken down and that is the stuff that we have to do right."

Players for the Legion seniors this season are:#1 Austin Abbott, #3 Austin Reynolds, #5 Chris Palomo, #6 Dalton Scott, #7 Nic Bibb, #8 Brent Barge, #13 Quentin Timblin, #18 Brenden Brester, #24 Trace Fulk, #25 Dylan Radzymski, #32 Esai Hernandez, and #38 Mike Gutherless.
