Zephyrs, Express look to build as seasons progress
     2015-06-04      By Terry Gaston    sports@geringcitizen.com
Both Westco Twin Cities American Legion baseball coaches Mark Moran and Mike Jones agree that the first three weekends of their respective schedules do not make or break their seasons.
After scoring respective victories over Sidney on Tuesday night, the Moran-coached Zephyr Seniors stand at 4-5 and the Jones-led Express Juniors improved to 7-4.

But a lot of ball is to be played before the teams enter their respective area tournaments on July 17-20, with the Express playing host to the Area 7 Juniors Tournament and the Zephyrs at Kearney for Area A-7 action.

“I think the whole team is a work in progress,” said 25th-year Zephyrs coach Mark Moran. “We can get better in every phase of the game and we just need to keep working at it.”
The Express have won five out of their last six games after starting out 1-2.
“We want to develop players right now, and of course we want to win,” said Jones, Western Nebraska Community College’s coach since 2002.
“Sometimes when you’re trying to develop young players, you’re going to put them in some situations that make them a little uncomfortable. And that’s a good thing to get them out of their comfort zone and experience some new things.”
The teams were scheduled for a Wednesday night doubleheader at Chadron before playing out-of-state opposition this weekend.
