Annual golf scramble ready to fill rosters

The 13th annual Gering Booster Club Golf Scramble will take place at the Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering on Thursday, July 9. To sign up for the event, the registration form found on the Gering Public Schools website must be printed off and mailed by the deadline of July 6.

A subcommittee of the booster club composed of booster club president Deana Spreier as well as both Jodi and Greg Ferguson and Dan Beam organizes the event. The money raised will go directly to student clubs and activities that come to the booster club throughout the school year.

The golf scramble is the only fundraiser that the Gering Booster Club holds, but it’s able to fund all of the activities that the booster club helps out.
“The booster club supports all activities. Usually the sponsors or the students of the activities come to the booster club with what they need or want. For example, we usually provide treat bags for all of the kids who qualify to go to state for every activity. Last year, the P.E. teachers as well as the coaches came to us asking about equipment for the weight room which we purchased,” Spreier said.

Forty coed teams are allowed to play in the tournament, but the roster usually fills up quickly, and teams are turned away every year. Currently, there are still slots for more teams, but it’s first come first serve.

“We serve them lunch up at the golf course, and it will start right at 8 in the morning. It usually finishes after they come eat lunch, so it’s usually early afternoon when it’s over,” Spreier said.
Businesses who have sponsored the event have donated prizes for the top placing teams. Something new that is being offered this year is a Hole in One contest on the second hole where the winner will receive their choice of either a Sea-Doo or an ATV from Celli’s Cycle Center.

To register, each team must pay a fee of 240 dollars plus an extra expense if they also wish to rent a golf cart.
