Westco Express gets second in Chadron tournament

The Westco Express had a rough start to the week losing both ends of a home doubleheader against North Platte 8-2 and 7-1. In the first game North Platte scored 1 in the first and 3 in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Express got their 2 runs in the fourth and North Platte tacked on 4 more in the seventh for the win. The Express managed just 1 hit by Brady Sindt. AJ Castillo-Powell and Trent Richter made the two runs. Gunner Buchhammer took the loss on the mound going 3.1 innings with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 6 hits, and 4 runs. Carlos Felix pitched 3.2 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 runs.

The Express’ luck didn’t change in the second game with North Platte opening with 1 run in the first, third and fourth innings then 2 runs in the fifth. The Express answered with 1 run in the sixth and North Platte padded the score with 1 more run in the seventh.

The Express still managed 5 hits with 3 by Josh Schroeder and 2 by Paul Panduro. Carlos Felix made the 1 run. The loss on the strip was taken by Braden Lofink who pitched for 5 innings. Lofink had 1 strikeout, 4 walks, 5 hits, and 5 runs. Brady Sindt pitched 2 innings with 1 strikeout, 1 hit, and 2 runs.

A change of luck forthe Express happened Friday morning at the Chadron tournament as they took out Martin, S.D. 9-1. Both teams scored 1 run in the second for a tie; however, the Express got 1 more in the third, 5 in the fourth, 1 in the fifth, and 1 in the sixth.
Hever Morales got the win on the mound with 3 strikeouts, 4 walks, 1 hit, and 1 run in 3.1 innings. Tristen Ramirez pitched 2.2 innings with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks, 2 hits, and no runs.

The Express had 5 hits by 5 players with Alex Gurrola getting a double, and Cody Snelling, Josh Wilson, Castillo-Powell, Felix getting singles.

The Express added another ‘W’ Friday afternoon, a close 3-2 win over Alliance. Alliance made 1 run in the first and both teams scored in the third with Alliance getting a 2-1 lead. The Express got 2 more in the top of the seventh and shut out Alliance in the bottom of the seventh for the 3-2 win.

Paul Panduro contributed a single and a double to the Express’ 6 hits. Sindt contributed 2 singles for the cause. Buchhammer and Richter each made a single. The 3 runs were made by Max Mason, Buchhammer, and Panduro. Castillo-Powell got the win on the bump lasting 6 innings with 6 strikeouts, 5 walks, 4 hits, and 2 runs, and 1 earned. Stindt pitched 1 inning with 1 strikeout.
On Saturday morning the Express suffered humiliation with a 10-0 loss to Chadron that was ended in 4½ innings on the 10-run rule. Chadron made 4 runs in the first, 2 in the third, and 4 in the fourth. The express had 3 single hits made by Wilson, Sindt, and Felix. Panduro took the pitching loss in 4 innings with 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, 7 hits, and 10 runs, 1 earned.
Fall down, get back up and the Express did that with a 12-4 win over Valentine for second place in the Chadron tournament. The Express had a 5-1 lead after the first inning adding 1 in the second, 4 in the third, and 2 in the fourth. Valentine had 3 in the fourth but The Express got the win after a scoreless top of the fifth.

Cody Snelling pitched 3.1 innings for the win with 7 strikeouts, 4 walks, 2 hits, and 4 runs all earned. Tristen Ramirez pitched 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts. There was lots of action at the plate with 9 hits. Felix had a single and a triple for his 2 hits. Lofink copied with a single and triple of his own giving both Felix and Lofink 2 RBIs each. Buchhammer Schroeder, Sindt, Mason, and Panduro each belted out a single. Mason crossed the plate 3 times and Lofink did it twice. Jack Jones, Jackson Honstein, Buchhammer, Felix, Sindt, Panduro, and Morales each made 1 run.

After a 7-3 loss to Chadron Tuesday the Express are now 20-14 on the season.
