Tennis players to support diabetes group
     2015-07-22      By Jerry Purvis
The tennis courts at Gering High School will be busy this weekend as the Gering Tennis Club sponsors a fundraiser for the Life Choice Connection diabetes support group.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, Gering Tennis Club members, both juniors and adults, will be playing two-hour matches non-stop until 6 p.m. on Saturday. Tennis players throughout the community are also invited to play.

“We’ll have one court used at all times to make it official,” said Matt Palomo of the Gering Tennis Club. “We also invite anyone in the community to join us.”

The 24 hours of tennis fundraiser will support Life Change Connection, founded in 2012 by local Runza restaurant owner Neal Blomenkamp. The group’s mission is to empower people in western Nebraska who are affected by diabetes. Some of their services include a mentor program, a support group for all ages, help with medical supplies and travel expenses, along with teaching and training materials.

Donations to the support group will also be accepted during the tennis matches at Gering High School. Support may also be mailed to PO Box 1344, Scottsbluff, NE 69363.

For more information, call Matt Palomo at (308) 641-9379.
