WNCC volleyball goes 4-0 at Western Wyoming Tourney

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. -- The Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team made it a good weekend after capturing four wins in the Holiday Inn Classic in Rock Springs, Wyoming, over the weekend.
The No. 9 Cougars started the tournament on Friday with sweeps over No. 15 Snow College 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 before taking out the host squad Western Wyoming Community College 25-21, 25-22, 26-24.
Saturday, the Cougars were just as impressive with two more wins, running their record to 6-2 on the season.

WNCC opened Saturday's play with a straight set win over Phoenix College 25-14, 28-26, 25-21 before capping off the tournament with a four-set win over Colorado Northwestern Community College 25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 25-11.

Saturday's opener against Phoenix saw Barbara Rabanel register a triple double, collecting 10 kills, 15 digs, and 11 points. The freshman from Lima, Peru, also had a solo block.
The Cougars hitting continued with eight kills each from Shaney Tiumalu and Jady Gerotto. Gerotto also tallied three solo blocks, eight points, and four digs.

Also for the Cougars, Fabiana Andrade had another stellar game sitting, registering 41 set assists, while also getting an ace, six points, and seven digs. Keala Kaio-Perez had nine digs to pace the team.

After sweeping the first three opponents in the tournament, the Cougars went four sets against CNCC. WNCC captured the first set with east, 25-14. The Spartans then captured the second set 25-18. After that, it was WNCC, winning the final two 25-19, 25-11.

Andrade had a triple double in the win, registering 35 set assists to go along with 13 points and 14 digs. Andrade also had two aces.
Kaio-Perez also stepped up with a double-double of 22 digs and 16 points.

The Cougars finished the game with 42 kills, led by Lara Picht's 12 kills Maraea O'Connor also chipped in eight kills followed by seven each from Rabanel and Gerotto, and six from Tiumalu.

Friday's action saw plenty of highlights. In the win against No. 15 Snow College, Picht had a double-double with 10 points and 10 kills, The hitter from Brandenburg, Germany also had six digs.
WNCC also got 36 set assists from Andrade, and nine kills and seven points from Rabanel.

The match against Western Wyoming was a big win after the Spartans topped Salt Lake Community College in four games on Thursday. Rabanel had the double-double in the win, finishing with 10 digs and 10 kills. Andrade also had a double-double with 28 set assists and 11 points.

WNCC, 6-2, will be back in action next weekend at the Salt Lake Invite where they will face College of Southern Idaho, North Idaho College, Salt Lake Community College, and Snow College.
