MINATARE – The Minatare High School volleyball team is still working for its first win of the season and the Lady Indians came close here on Sept. 25 when they hosted Arthur County.
Unfortunately, the Wolves, (5-3) had more experience and stronger hitters as the Lady Indians (0-10) fell in straight sets, 25-7, 25-20, and 25-13.

In the first set the Wolves jumped out to a quick lead as Minatare struggled with the Arthur County serves and the hitting of Mackenna Turner, Kelsey Channer and Mallory Morrell. Minatare also had a hard time from the service line with a number of serve not making it across the net.

In the second set, Arthur County took an early lead but Minatare staged a comeback with hitting from freshman Kristin Clause and sophomore Jennifer Sims.

In the third set Arthur County took a 5-0 lead early, but Minatare came back to tie the set at six with some strong serving from Maria Guerreca and strong net play from Sims and Clause along with defensive digs from Jackie Martinez and Alexandria Garcia.
But Arthur County’s experience and fundamentals proved too much for the Lady Indians.

Next up for Minatare will be a home match with Garden County on Oct. 6.

Garden County is struggling this season just like Minatare with a 1-12 record. The two teams met earlier this season and Garden County won in three sets.
