Prep Football Roundup: Mitchell roars to 5th win

The Mitchell Tigers knocked off the Chadron Cardinals, 27-15, in conference game at Chadron.

Tigers senior QB Drew Gilliland again racked up big numbers tossing the ball 7-of-8 for 119 yards. He also carried 24 times for 220 yards (339 total yards) scoring three TDs, while his younger brother sophomore running back Drake Gilliland ran the ball the same number of times for 135 yards. Drew Gilliland also spread the ball around to his receivers. Chris Perez had three receptions for 16 yards and one TD, Abe Hernandez had two receptions for 40 yards, and Colby Eberspecher had three receptions for 33 yards.

On defense, Drew Gilliland led with 15 tackles, nine of them solo. Both Darryn Walters and Hernandez each had 13 tackles. And inside linebacker Trenten Strawder had 10 tackles. Perez and Drew Gilliland also had one interception apiece.

The Tigers (5-1) play the Ogallala Indians (4-1) at home on Friday in a non-conference matchup. Two weeks ago, the Indians also downed Chadron, 35-0.

Morrill 0, Hemingford 52

The Morrill Lions were shut down against the Hemingford Bobcats, 52-0, in at home.

The Bobcats (4-1) scored all their points in the first two quarters, then coasted the rest of the way.

Next up, Morrill (2-3) go on the road to face the Creek Valley (Chappell) Storm in a D1-10 (8 Man) matchup tomorrow. Last week, the Storm was pounded 92-0 by Perkins County (Grant).

Bayard 0, Hershey 32

The Bayard Tigers were left scoreless against the Hershey Panthers, 32-0, in a conference game last Friday.

The Tigers (2-4) take on Cambridge Trojans (2-4) in a C2-8 District game at home tomorrow.

The Minatare Indians (2-3) picked up a forfeit win over the Banner County Wildcats. Two weeks ago, Banner County ended its football program this season due to multiple injuries.
