Minatare hosted the Sioux County Warriors in a volleyball match on Friday evening, as the mostly young team dropped a hard-fought loss in four sets: 11-25, 25-13, 13-25 and 20-25.

Minatare Coach Tressie Sims said her team played well, including a serving run of 11 aces by middle Jennifer Sims in the second set, which Minatare won.

“Jennifer was jump serving for the first time that night and was just on fire,” Sims said. “Our other middle, Hailey Clause, was also really strong as a freshman. And our setter Alexandra Garcia had some great support. She really stepped up as a leader.”

Minatare is a young team as all its starters are either freshmen or sophomores. In Friday night’s match against Sioux County, two sophomores and four freshmen got the starting nod.

“The team is very hungry and very talented,” Sims said. “They work together as a team and it’s awesome to coach them. They’ve improved drastically over the season.”

Minatare has three more regular season matches to play – against Bayard, Hyannis and a quad match at Leyton before going into the sub-district tournament.

“The girls are coming together with more and more confidence, so I’d love to see a win at sub-districts,” she said. “Everyone will also be back for next season, so I’ll have this group of girls for most of the next three years. They’ll not only be a team in the future, but a force as they continue to become a family.”
