All Points West: A few early holiday wishes
     2015-11-25      By Frank Marquez    editor@geringcitizen.com
Happy Thanksgiving.

Since we’re early on stringing up Christmas decorations, guess I’ll jump on the bandwagon.

First, we can be thankful Nebraska didn’t lose more games. However, the 5-6 Cornhuskers would do well to win their final regular season game against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday Nov. 27. My early Christmas wish? Let Nebraska get to a bowl and take out the season’s worth of frustration on a non-conference team, and hand the undefeated Hawkeyes their first loss.

I was also thankful the Michigan State Spartans beat Ohio State, which does two things. 1. It draws attention away from their defeat in Lincoln. 2. It shows parity in the league.

I’m thankful the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars volleyball team almost beat the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles Saturday night in the National Junior College Athletic Association title game in Casper, Wyo. My Christmas wish for the Cougars: They’ll come back strong next season.

My early Christmas wish for the Gering Bulldogs is that one day the wrestling team could achieve the same kind of success it had during the 1970s and ‘80s.

All I can say about NU and our local teams, is do your best.

GBR!
