CatDog bowlers bow out early at state
     2016-02-19      By Staff Report    editor@geringcitizen.com
The Scottsbluff/Gering CatDog bowling team was in Lincoln Feb. 13 to compete in the Class A state tournament. While they had some success, the season ended sooner than they wanted.

In the opening round, all eight teams bowled four regular, five-person team games. Those scores determined how the teams would be seeded for the second round.

The CatDog boys rolled the sixth seed and went up against Lincoln Southeast, losing 3-1. Southeast lost to Fremont in the final.

Scottsbluff/Gering has only one senior on the boys’ team this year – Chris Bartow, who will bowl for Hastings College in the fall. Other members included juniors Trenton Rahmig, Dane Jacobs, Noah Hergenreder and Bailey Venturino. Rounding out the team was freshman Jerrod Fulk.

The girls’ team was seeded seventh after the tournament’s first round and went up against Grand Island. That matchup was a nail-biter.

The CatDog girls took a 2-0 lead. Grand Island answered by winning the next two games, tying the match at 2-2. The fifth game for the win went to Grand Island by just three pins.

The Grand Island girls went on to win to win the state championship.

Last weekend’s event was the eighth time the CatDog girls have gone to the state tournament. This year, they captured second place at the Class A, District 4 tournament in Columbus.

Team members for the Scottsbluff/Gering girls included seniors Jordan Holten, Mackenzie Perlinger and Michelle Becker. Sarah Duncan, Kaitlyn Schallenberger and Halley Schanaman are sophomores, and Brooke DeSha is a freshman.
