The Scottsbluff boys’ soccer team are ready to improve on last year’s 9-9 record with the return of lots of experience.

“It’s still early in the season, so we’re looking at getting better every day,” said Coach Nate Rock. “We’re technically sound and utilize our speed well. The fundamentals are good so we’ll keep expanding on those. But we have to score more goals and finish better than last year.”

Rock said all the district games are important, as well as the GNAC tournament coming up April 8 and 9 in Columbus.

“We have two big regional rivals in Gering and Torrington,” he said. “We play home matches with both those teams. They’re both good and give us a real challenge.”

Owen Parra, Eseah Ingram and Jackson Thomas made solid contributions to the team last year as seniors. This season, all three of them will take their games to the next level at Western Nebraska Community College. Patrick Madden will also play at the college level next year.

Even with graduations, Scottsbluff has 30 players on this year’s roster. Some of the players Rock will rely on include senior Edwin Delgado, who took a year off last year. Jake Anderson, a junior, will help anchor the defense, along with Ben Rodriguez at the center back position.

“Those are players we’ll build around this year,” Rock said. “We also have some returning sophomores who got a lot of starting time last year.”

Brady Sindt, who played defense last year, has moved to the new position goalkeeper for Scottsbluff. Rock said that while it’s an adjustment, Sindt has performed well in early matches.
