This season’s Banner County track team is a small team with Abby Russell as the lone returning senior, but Coach Kari Gifford is seeing some solid performances for early in the season.

“Right now we’re looking for individual improvement throughout the season,” Gifford said. “We haven’t had much of a chance for practice with weather issues and a power outage at the school and that’s put us behind.”

The Wildcats’ first meet was April 2 in Bayard. They turned a couple of good performances in the throwing events as MaKenna Dahlgrin took second and Abby Russell was third in the shotput. Dahlgrin and Russell both turned in their personal best in that event. Dahlgrin also took second place in the discus.

“That was nice to see right out of the gun,” Gifford said. “For the season, I’d obviously get some of the kids qualified for the state meet, which is going to take a lot of work. By that point, you always want to be competing at your best.”
