Bayard takes fourth at home tourney

The Bayard boys’ golf team placed fourth on May 9 as they hosted the Minuteman Activities Conference meet at the Chimney Rock Golf Course.

Bayard’s final team score was 407. Garden County won meet with a 357 score, followed by Creek Valley in second at 384, and South Platte in third at 394.

Bayard was led by senior Manny Acosta, who shot a round of 95. Teammate Dawson Kriha was two strokes back at 97. Ethan Marker shot a round of 105 on the day, with Alex Araujo at 110 and Alan Ouderkirk at 151.

Bayard Coach Jim Roberts said it was a beautiful day for golf.
The tournament was moved from April 28 due to poor weather. “All our golfers were able to play at the best of their ability because it’s the end of the season. They should hopefully peak before the district tournament.”

Bayard’s best player at the MAC Tourney was Manny Acosta, who was in a three-way tie for eighth place, but finished in 10th because of scoring criteria.

“I don’t think we performed up to our potential,” Roberts said. “The boys knew they had a chance on their home course, but the pressure mounted and didn’t turn out well.”

He also congratulated the other four teams playing in the tourney for a great afternoon of golf. The day included a tie for best individual first place that had to be decided by a playoff hole.

The C-5 District tournament is set for May 17 at the Prairie Club in Valentine. Roberts said the course is high-end that will give his golfers the opportunity to see a premium, high quality course.
