East sweeps West in All-Stars volleyball and football

Allie Boggs of Gering does her job as setter in the first match. The East swept the West in the West Nebraska All-Stars 32nd volleyball and 39th football games on June 11, Saturday. Chadron’s Chandler Hageman won MVP Honors while East and West traded punches at Cougar Palace on the campus of Western Nebraska Community College until the final fifth and deciding lopsided match, 25-17, 20-25, 25-12, 11-25, 15-2. The West football team missed evening the score during the final drive in a thriller that evening at Bearcat Stadium. The West was set up for the go-ahead score until a field goal attempt was blocked in the final 12 seconds of the game. The East escaped with a 26-25 victory. The West’s Gabe Haney of Hyannis was presented a sportsmanship award. Frank Marquez/Gering Citizen
