GERING — After a string of five tough losses in a series of double-headers against Buckley, North Platte, and Laramie, the Gering Legion Post #36 Gering Platte Valley Companies Seniors, now 30-15 on the season, head to Casper (Wyoming) this weekend hoping to regain some ground.

In the night cap against Laramie, Quentin Timblin went 2-2, but Gering still fell to Laramie 6-5 in seven innings on Monday (July 11) at Laramie.

Harrison Yates recorded the win for Laramie even though he allowed five runs over 6-2/3 innings. Yates struck out six, walked three and gave up six hits.

Pitcher Brent Barge took the loss for the seniors, lasting just five innings. Barge walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

In the bottom of the second, Laramie grabbed the early lead, 3-0, and got things going when Yates tripled. A stolen base then moved Cameron Campbell from first to second. More runs came home for Laramie when Campbell scored on an RBI single by Logan Pickard who scored on a groundout by Will Yates.

Laramie stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fifth, scoring one run on an error.

Laramie added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Marshall Stuart started things off with a single, scoring Reid Baty, which was followed up by Blake Moore’s single, bringing home Pickard.

After pushing across two runs in the top of the seventh, the Gering seniors faced a narrow 6-5 deficit. A groundout by Austin Abbott and a groundout by Esai Hernandez failed to ignite any kind of rally. The game was final when Trace Fulk struck out.

Laramie closer Cameron Campbell put away the final six outs to record the save.

In the top of the first inning, the Platte Valley seniors took an early lead, 2-0. After Brent Barge doubled, the Gering seniors kept the pressure on Laramie pitching. Austin Abbott singled, bringing home Barge. An RBI double by Austin Reynolds scored Abbott, tacking on another run.

Laramie matched its one-run first inning with one more in the second. In the first, Laramie scored on an RBI double by Campbell, which plated David Coulthard.

After posting one run in the fourth, the Gering seniors scored one in the eighth, then in the fourth, an RBI single by Abbott brought Timblin home.

The Gering seniors ignited rallies in the sixth and seventh innings. Like Groundhog Day, in the sixth, Gering scored on an RBI single by Abbott, which scored Timblin.

After that quick strike, Laramie responded with five runs in the sixth. Laramie added runs when Treyven Armijo stole home, followed by a groundout by Albert Steiner, an RBI single by Campbell, and a two-run error.

Laramie never trailed after scoring two runs in the eighth on three singles.
