Looking to improve this year with a new head coach, Morrill Lions, who play in D-1 District 10, finished last season at 3-5.

In setting the midseason goal, “as a team, we are looking to have a good season this fall,” said first-year Head Coach Adam Jantzi. “We are young, but talented. We have a good core of guys who have worked in the weight room and on the field this summer and that has really helped us to gel. We have gotten a lot more athletic already early this summer and I think our work ethic will help us a lot down the road. As a team, I think we are all excited and ready for the season to start.”

Jantzi, who didn’t know the plan last year, has set his goals, in part, for the Lions to win district, make the playoffs and have a winning record. Giving little hint to approaches or gimmicks, he added that the team will be revamping the offense, defense, and special teams, with his defense specializing on stopping the run game, and keeping his opponents off the field.

Jantzi will be relying on assistants: defensive coordinator Colby Folck; special teams coach Ryan Burnison; and offensive and defensive line coaches Josh Hopkins and Matt Hessler.

The Lions return 21 players on varsity. Topping the list are seniors Aaron Lopez at defensive end and tight end; Desmend Gomez at defensive tackle and offense line; Ben Cantu at defensive tackle and offensive line; and juniors Jonny Hessler at defensive end and tight end; Trevor Cecil at quarterback and defensive back; and Will Howell at fullback and linebacker.
