Gering’s Jacobs claims tournament title

Scottsbluff’s Andrew Aratani wins 6-3 against Gering’s Thomas Jacobs in the 285 weight class. Jacobs went on to become champion at 220 pounds a the Cheyenne East Tournament Saturday, Dec. 10. 
CHEYENNE — Gering, Scottsbluff and Alliance wrestled at the Cheyenne East Tournament Saturday, Dec. 10 against 15 teams. Alliance placed fourth, Gering placed eighth and Scottsbluff placed tenth.

Gering’s Thomas Jacobs was champion at 220 pounds. Gering’s Jessy Richard tied for 3rd at 160, and Gering’s Francisco Garcia placed 4th in the toughest weight of the tournament. Scottsbluff’s Cruz Delacruz placed fourth at 106, Keegan Hessler placed third at 113 and Andrew Aratani placed third at 285.



Team scores for the Cheyenne East Tournament:
1. Douglas 168.00; 2. East 150.00; 3. Central 117.50; 4. Alliance 109.50; 5. Poudre 105.00; 6. Highland 91.00; 7. Laramie 67.00; 8. Gering 62.50; 9. Kelly Walsh 60.50; 10. Scottsbluff 53.50; 11. Mountain View 51.00; 12. South 50.50; 13. Niwot 48.50; 14. Rawlins 44.00; and 15.Wheatland 30.00.

So far, the Gering Bulldogs have won 67 out of 126 varsity matches and 32 out of 78 Junior Varsity matches. According to coach Hughes, “The wrestling team continues to improve, and I look forward to the rest of the season.” Scottsbluff pounded Gering 51-15 at a dual on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Scottsbluff

Alliance inched past Scottsbluff 35-33 at a dual Thursday, Dec. 7 at Scottsbluff.
