Scottsbluff’s girls’ golf team took home another win on Aug. 29 at its home invite at the Scotts Bluff Country Club. The girls shot a team score of 359, 25 strokes better than runner-up Casper Kelly Walsh at 384. Sidney came in third with 416.

Scottsbluff junior Shelby Poynter used her knowledge of the team’s home course to shoot a round of 75, three over par, to win the individual title. The win was a repeat of the Sidney Invitational, where Chadron’s Alpine Hickstein came in second.

Poynter was joined in the top 10 individual scores by teammates Rachel Hancock at 89 for sixth place, and DJ Bokelman in seventh with a 92 score.

Ashlyn Haun carded a 103 on the afternoon for the Bearcats and Jordyn Hoxworth came in at 111.

Gering’s Bulldogs placed sixth on the afternoon, carding a team score of 429. They were led by Jaylen Beam, whose round of 98 qualified her for ninth place among the individual top 10. Teammates Baily Kreider carded a 105 and Megan Maser at 111, followed by Afton Mitchell at 115 and Avery Mitchell with 122.

In Division 2 play at the Scottsbluff Invite, Mitchell was led by Kenzey Kanno, who shot a 92 round. In second was Madison Cole at 112, followed by Ashely Jackson at 114, Mykenzie Musfelt at 124 and Kaitlyn Hessler at 138.

Scottsbluff was in action again on Wednesday (Aug. 31) in a home quad event with Bayard, Bridgeport and Mitchell at Riverview Golf Course. Both Scottsbluff and Gering will then be on the road for the Chadron Invitational, coming up Sept. 6.
