Gering volleyball stumbles

The Gering High School volleyball team started off the season Friday, September 2, at the Campbell County High School Invitational in Gillette, Wyoming.

On the first day of the tournament, the Bulldogs lost to Cheyenne East,12-25, 14-25, then Rapid City Central 10-25, 18-25, before defeating Newcastle 25-23, 25-21.

“Overall we did not play well,” Head Coach David Lashley said about the first series of matches. “We just lacked any consistency both offensively and defensively. We have a lot of work to do to become the team we would like to be.”

The following day, the Bulldogs opened with a loss to Sheridan 25-20, 25-19, followed by a win over Glenrock, 25-23, 15-17. In their final match, the Bulldogs succumbed to rival Scottsbluff, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18.

Chadron was scheduled for Thursday, September 8. Results could not be included before press time.

So far in the young season, the Bulldogs, at 2-4 before facing Chadron, are led by Victoria Schwartz and Makenzie Dunkel, who stood out
