Chadron took revenge versus Gering (5-3) last Tuesday night, September 6, at Oregon Trail Park three days after a run-crazed Bulldog team had its way with the Cardinals. The Bulldogs fell to the Cardinals, 12-3, after mulling the 14-4 loss the previous Saturday at the McCook Invite.

The Bulldogs racked up five hits Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough.

Delaney Dean did her best to jumpstart the offense for the Bulldogs, reaching base three times. She also drove in two runners, and doubled in the fifth inning.

The Cardinals Dana Dunbar got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out five, walked seven and surrendered five hits.

Chadron’s Kaitlyn Haug, Kylee Garrett, and Dawn and Dana Dunbar combined for 12 hits and six RBIs.

Gering’s Jacey Marietta was charged with the loss. She allowed 12 runs in seven innings, walked one, and struck out six.
The lead stayed with Chadron after the first inning, when it scored three runs on two solo blasts.

Chadron added four more runs in the top of the second. An error scored Dunbar to get Chadron on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Dawn Dunbar’s single, scoring Haug.

A two-run fifth inning helped pull the Bulldogs within five. A two-run double by Dean fueled Gering’s comeback, then Paige Peterson flew out to end the Gering’s threat.

One run in the bottom of the seventh helped Gering close their deficit to 12-3. A fielder’s choice triggered the Bulldogs comeback. Dana Dunbar ended the game by getting Kaylee Bohnsack to fly out.
