Frank Marquez/Gering Citizen Marley Garcia is ruled out at second during the Sept. 15 game.
A nine-run explosion in the sixth inning lifted the Gering Bulldogs to a 16-3 win in six innings over Scottsbluff at the North Platte tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, now 12-7, scored in the sixth on a two-run single by Anessa Escamilla, a two-run error, and an RBI double by Paige Peterson.

Escamilla racked up three RBIs on four hits for Gering.
Tori Hoagland got the win for Gering. She allowed three runs over six innings. Hoagland struck out two, walked two and gave up six hits.

Erin Willats was the losing pitcher. She allowed 10 runs in 3-1/3 innings, walked four and struck out none.

The lead stayed with the Gering after the first, when they scored two runs on a groundout by Delaney Dean and an RBI single by Peterson.

Gering added three more runs in the top of the second. An error scored Escamilla for the inning’s first run.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the second, Scottsbluff faced a 5-3 deficit. An error and a groundout by Maddy Keller gave Scottsbluff life. Finally, Hoagland got Alex Salazar to strike out to end the threat.

After posting one run in the third, the Bulldogs again scored one in the fifth. In the third, the Gering Bulldogs Varsity scored when Hoagland was hit by a pitch, bringing home Bobbie Claflin.
