Bulldogs volleyball looks to ‘finish strong’
     2016-10-14      By Staff Report    editor@geringcitizen.com
The Gering Bulldogs (6-20) played three matches on the first day of the Western Conference Tournament on October 8, dropping two setters to both Sidney and Mitchell before winning the late match against rival Scottsbluff, 25-14, 25-19, for fifth place.

“I thought that we played some decent volleyball. We just made some untimely errors in the first two matches that allowed Mitchell and Sidney to pull away and win,” Gering Head Coach David Lashley said. “We seem to be improving as the season progresses. We now need to press our improvement so that we can finish strong.”

Gering faced Scottsbluff for the fourth time at home on Thursday, but not before press time with the Bearcats leading the season series, 2-1. The Bulldogs also travel to Sidney on Tuesday, October 18, then wraps up the regular season hosting Bridgeport on October 20, and travelling to Ogallala on October 25. In B-8 District standings, Gering occupies the bottom at 0-3.

In the Western Conference match against the Mitchell Tigers, Gering fell 22-25 and 19-25, the later to the Sidney Red Raiders, 20-25 and 22-25.

The Chadron Cardinals took the Western Conference title against Sidney in three sets, 25-16, 11-25, and 25-11. Alliance beat Mitchell to for third place, 25-19, 22-25, and 25-21.
